START WITH THE WORK YOU NEED DONE

Your next tender queue.
A better resourcing plan.

If take-offs are pushing quote reviews into the evening, start by defining what can be handed over. Tell us about your ductwork workload, software and next deadline.

We can discuss a dedicated role or scoped support, subject to the work and availability. Before you commit, clarify the experience required, working-hour overlap, review process and full cost.

DUCTWORK ESTIMATING SERVICES

A take-off you can trace.
A build-up you can review.

A ductwork estimate connects measured quantities to fabrication, supply and installation costs. Scope the role around the parts of that process your team needs help with.

01 / QUANTITIES

Duct take-offs

Rectangular, circular and flexible ductwork; fittings, branches, transitions, grilles, diffusers and dampers within the agreed trade boundary.

  • Separate system, size, material and location.
  • Record length, surface area or counts as required.
  • Keep insulation and lining identifiable.
02 / COST BUILD-UP

Pricing support

Apply your approved supplier or fabrication rates and labour basis. Keep material, fabrication and installation allowances separate enough to check.

  • Flag quote validity and exclusions.
  • Identify supports, access and delivery allowances.
  • Leave mark-up and tender decisions with you.
03 / CHANGE CONTROL

Revision tracking

Track what changed between drawing issues, rather than replacing a total without an explanation.

  • Keep drawing numbers and revision references.
  • Log quantity changes and pricing queries.
  • Separate confirmed scope from assumptions.
Agree the output before work starts. A useful handover can include marked-up PDFs, an editable quantity or cost workbook, a revision register and an assumptions list. Confirm the candidate’s software capability and licence arrangements; access to a particular platform is not assumed.

THE DETAIL THAT CHANGES THE PRICE

Same metres.
Different estimate.

Linear metres alone do not describe a ductwork package. Size, fittings, specification and installation conditions can change the cost without changing the route length.

WORKED EXAMPLE / NOT CLIENT DATA

A 50 mm depth revision is still a revision.

A 12 m straight rectangular run changes from 600 × 400 mm to 600 × 450 mm. Its nominal external surface area changes even though its length stays the same.

Before 24.0 m²After 25.2 m²

Geometry only: 2 × (width + depth) × length, with all dimensions in metres. The 1.2 m² difference excludes seams, joints, wastage, fittings, insulation and fabrication allowances. It is not a sheet-order quantity or a price.

Make the measurement basis explicit.

FittingsCounts and geometry. Do not assume they are included in straight-run rates.

Australian project inputs stay in the loop.

Keep the applicable NCC edition, project specification and referenced ductwork standards in the brief. State and territory adoption arrangements matter; a national code release is not a reason to assume the same edition applies to every live project.[1]

AMCA announced a revision project for AS 4254.2 in January 2026. Treat that as a prompt to check the specified edition and current requirements, not permission to price to an unpublished change.[2] The estimator flags gaps; your responsible technical team resolves design and compliance decisions.

Labour-unit references also need adjustment for actual site conditions, rather than being treated as an automatic local productivity rate.[3]

“Equipment availability and cost, crew set up, and productivity factors are unique to each company.”

TOOL 01 / COST OF ESTIMATING CAPACITY

A lower rate is a start.
Compare the whole cost.

Looking for affordable outsourced ductwork estimating? Include review time, software and setup costs. Use your own figures to compare support for the same agreed monthly workload.

Your comparison inputs

All amounts in AUD, excluding GST. Example figures are hypothetical, not Cost Solution pricing.

MONTHLY COMPARISON

Put review time
in the equation.

Enter your figures or load the worked example to see the calculation.

A planning scenario, not a quote or a savings promise. Confirm the remote arrangement covers the same output and hours. Allow for leave, rework, exchange rates and any unlisted charges in your inputs. Common review time should be treated consistently on both sides.

See the calculation

Local = monthly hours × local loaded hourly cost.

Remote = monthly fee + extra software + (additional review hours × reviewer cost) + (setup cost ÷ months).

Difference = local − remote. A positive result means a lower modelled remote cost. It does not measure productivity or tender outcomes.

TOOL 02 / DUCTWORK ROLE BRIEF

Get specific.
Get a more useful conversation.

“I need a cheap estimator” leaves too much open. Build a short brief that connects the person, the technical work and the handover. No email is needed to use this tool.

A brief you can use.

Generate your brief, then download it or add it to the enquiry above. It will flag the inputs still to agree.

Tool inputs stay in this page unless you choose to include them in a submitted enquiry. We do not upload drawings through this tool.

BEFORE THE NEXT DRAWING ISSUE

Build the checks
into the handover.

Remote support works better when exceptions have a place to go. Agree what the estimator can progress, what needs a clarification and who approves the final tender.

Talk through your workflow
01

Mixed revisions or unscaled PDFs

Log the issue and request the correct drawing or verified dimension. Do not silently rescale the whole set or combine superseded and current quantities.

02

Fittings counted twice, or not at all

Confirm whether fabrication quotes include fittings, flanges, reinforcement and wastage before adding separate allowances to the estimate.

03

A route that is not yet coordinated

Flag unresolved ceiling space, access and service clashes. Record the tender assumption and the reviewer’s decision; a take-off does not resolve the design.

PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

Before you
hand it over.

Can I outsource ductwork estimating instead of hiring locally?

Yes. You can discuss remote support for take-offs, pricing administration and revisions, with your Australian team retaining local commercial decisions. Cost Solution helps scope the role and arrangement. Candidate experience, working hours, supervision and software access need to be agreed before work starts.

How much does ductwork estimating support cost?

There is no single rate that fits every workload. Experience, hours, task complexity, software and the engagement model affect the cost. Request a scoped quote, then use the comparison tool to include review time and additional charges. The tool’s worked example is not a service price.

Do I need a full-time estimator or help with one tender?

Ongoing tender work may suit a dedicated role. A single tender or uneven workload calls for a discussion about scoped or overflow support. Cost Solution’s consultation covers full-time, part-time and fixed-rate options, with the fit and availability confirmed for your ductwork needs.

What is the difference between a duct take-off and an estimate?

A take-off measures the quantities in the agreed drawing and specification set. An estimate applies costs and allowances, including relevant fabrication, materials, labour and installation requirements. Agree whether you need quantities only or a priced build-up, and who supplies and approves the rates.

Can a remote estimator use Australian rates and my software?

The role can be scoped around your approved Australian supplier quotes, labour assumptions and templates. Name your platform, such as Bluebeam, CostX or Excel, in the enquiry. Confirm the individual’s practical capability, file compatibility and licence requirements rather than assuming every tool is included.

Can I choose based on skills rather than a particular country?

Lead with ductwork experience, communication, time-zone overlap and the output you need. Ask which candidate locations and arrangements are actually available. Location alone does not establish estimating competence or the total cost of support.

Can you meet an urgent tender deadline?

Include the due date and time zone, drawing status, approximate package size and tasks in your enquiry. We need to confirm fit and availability before accepting a deadline. Do not assume a standard turnaround applies to a complex or incomplete drawing set.
